All Aboard the Good Ship Zoomst
Born into and inspired by an absurd world, this New Orleans-based art project creates exploratory rock-fusion, embodying sleek futurismic groove. In their maniacal and meticulous approach to sound, these earthlings blend ideas from symphonic rock, swampy funk, trip-hop, and more, enrobed in textured electronic-inspired sound design. Technology and the human spirit fuse to build a cyberfunk discovery machine powered by love.
Influenced by the doctrine of improvisation, Zoomst never plays the same show twice. Each performance is passionate, unique, and unpredictable, with the players often as surprised and entranced as the audience. In their continuing endeavors, Zoomst hopes to bring genuine musical experiences everywhere they go and altruistically inspire humanity for its own betterment.
The versatile original quartet emerged in April 2021 with a porch concert, after more than a year of secret incubation. Zoomst has since added a fifth member and has become a recurring act at classic New Orleans institutions such as Tipitina’s and the Maple Leaf Bar, and has performed notable sets at the Joy Theater, Toulouse Theatre, Fete du Void, and Sterling Stage in NY. They have performed alongside artists such as Lespecial, Mike Dillon, Rebirth Brass Band, The Iceman Special, and Banshee Tree.
Self-booked tours have taken Zoomst to 16 states so far, plus DC. A successful adventure to Colorado in 2022 featured standout nights in Fort Collins and Steamboat Springs. In 2023, ‘24, and ’25, Zoomst made connections with new fans by touring through the Southeast, Midwest, and mid-Atlantic, highlighted by significant shows in NYC and Washington, D.C.
Their debut album Aboard the Good Ship was released on April 19, 2024. This earth-space-rock-opera satirizes the discourse around late-stage capitalism and conspiracy theories, examining important questions about the nature of progress, and the fate of the human race, through an enchanting allegorical lens. Teaming up with engineer and co-producer Joe Kalb (George Porter Jr.), recording began in December 2022 at the renowned Dockside Studio and continued through 2023 at Downman Sounds in New Orleans, with guest performers including Mike Dillon (Les Claypool, Punkadelick) and Miles Lyons (New Orleans Nightcrawlers, California Honeydrops).
Zoomst's next act will be an open-ended series of science-fiction short stories: Tales From The Deep. The first chapter, Chrysalis, is a 10-minute behemoth of green, a lush psychedelic symphony-in-miniature. It regales the tall tale of a personal encounter with an unexplainable entity deep in the wilderness, catalyzing a spiritual awakening. But can we really believe our protagonist? Chrysalis was released on March 27, 2026, and is now streaming worldwide!
